The laneway suite sits at the back of home in Bloorcourt Village, on a lot only seventeen feet wide. Once completed the multiplex conversion of the main house, Build X designed a solution to built up instead of out: two storeys, one bedroom, its own address separate from the four units in front of it.

Getting it built without development charges meant pulling its permits in a separate phase from the main house conversion, timed around the city’s DC exemption rules at the time. Construction wrapped in 2025, and the smallest structure on the lot ended up with the same legal standing as the house in front of it: its own address, its own mailbox, on a seventeen-foot lot that used to hold just one.
